SUMMER SKINCARE

We could hardly wait for the first warm summer rays, the buzzing of cicadas, long evenings and the golden sun caressing our skin. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? And it is! It has already been proven how important the sun’s role in the production of vitamin D is and the latter is key in contributing to our contentment and well-being.

The sun is a source of life and invaluable energy that provides us with the vitality we need to live our lives to the fullest. Its impact can be observed in all areas, but it is also true that the effect of the ultraviolet rays it emits is increasing year by year, which is bringing the sun into more and more disrepute. This is, of course, completely unjust, because we humans with our stepmotherly attitude towards our planet are mainly to blame for ozone depletion. The sun is not the same as it was years ago, and humans have had to adapt to that in many ways. Our skin is no exception - it needs some help and special care in order to find a common language with the sun’s rays and achieve the perfect summer harmony.

How to prepare your skin for the sumer

Long clothes are slowly finding their way back into the closet as they’re replaced by shorter versions. The skin is starting to peek out and its defensive and protective instincts need to kick in fast to prepare for interaction with the sun’s rays. You’ve probably heard that exfoliating is a great way to wake up your skin and remove dead skin cells countless times before. This is not only a great way to stimulate the skin but the whole body, since improved microcirculation benefits the entire organism. Body scrubs are recommended about twice a week and a great variation of that is the dry brushing ritual, which is also known to promote firmness in the skin.

Homemade body scrub

Preparing a scrub at home can be incredibly simple; all you need is a paste or mixture containing mechanical particles and some good quality oil that softens, nourishes and pampers your skin during the exfoliation process. Make either a salt or sugar version, though a coffee grounds-based scrub can be great too. Add a little vegetable oil, honey or butter, maybe a drop of essential oil, and you’ve got a great product that’s going to be a treat for your skin. For facial scrubs, it’s better to avoid rough mechanical particles, as the skin there can be quite thin and delicate; we recommend a combination of fruit acids (e. g. lemon juice) and lactic acid (plain yoghurt) instead. Leave the mixture on your face for 10 minutes, then rinse off with plenty of lukewarm water and voilà - clean, soft and radiant skin is guaranteed!

What makes our skin the happiest on hot days?

The next step that should not be overlooked is consistent skin care as part of the preparation for summer. That’s what gives our body the strength and support to maintain balance and well-being, which is always the key to a happy and content skin.

Vegetable oils rich in antioxidants are recommended to be used regularly for at least three weeks before major sun exposure, as this helps strengthen the skin’s self-protective role. You can achieve a soothing effect by using the After Sun Elixir in the time leading up to your planned summer holidays or a more intense sun exposure. This provides the skin with a treasure trove of essential fatty acids which help in the formation of the skin’s hydrolipidic layer and the building of the protective role of the epidermis. The skin will thus receive the ideal preparation for the sun’s summer rays and their coexistence will positively glow with harmony.

A precious combination of hemp seed oil, St. John’s wort and lemongrass oil for relaxed and soothed skin after a day in the sun or daily. The Elixir soothes and protects irritated, reddened and sensitive skin that has lost moisture, elasticity and softness after exposure to the sun. Ingredients:Hemp seed oil replenishes the skin and restores the skin’s elasticity leaving it soft, supple and smooth. St John's wort and marigold extracts regenerate and soothe sun-stressed skin. Lemongrass oil refreshes and invigorates the skin while providing natural protection against mosquitoes.

The sun can leave a mark

The sun can mark our skin in the form of a sunburn that’s caused by exposure to UV rays without the use of sunscreen. They are brought on by UVB rays and can be seen shortly after unprotected exposure to the sun. The other version of the rays – UVA – is a bit more cunning, as the skin silently registers their impact and, over time, lets it surface in the form of photodamage. Pigment spots, wrinkles, loss of elasticity and, in the worst cases, skin cancer can all occur. To protect the skin against these conditions, appropriate protection is needed – we can provide that by using the right SPF in sufficient quantities. You need to take extra care to protect your face all year round, as the rays find their way in even through office windows, cars and the thickest of clouds, silently photoaging your skin; once you’ve accumulated the damage, there’s no turning back. Hemptouch has developed a CBD SPF 50 sunscreen specifically to help you protect the skin on your face; its mineral protective filters will defend against all of the aforementioned dangers of UV rays.

Long summer evenings in a golden glow

A day spent in the sun, in the mountains, at the beach or by the pool calls for an ample evening treatment to restore lost strength to the skin. The first step is certainly to cleanse the skin thoroughly and remove the sunscreen. Mineral SPFs form a physical shield on the epidermis and it is important that they are properly removed from the skin to allow the pores to breathe again. Therefore we strongly recommend a two-step cleansing routine. The first step is designed to remove impurities, creams, make-up and other traces of the day using vegetable oil or butter. In the second step, use a cotton pad and a cleansing gel to perform a second cleansing, thus removing the last remaining traces of activity and allowing your skin to breathe again. This should be followed by moisturising, replenishing and nourishing the skin so it can fully regain lost moisture and elasticity, as well as restore its balance.

Lightweight, mineral, SPF 50 sunscreen protects against UVA/UVB sun damage.   A naturally derived, chemical free sunscreen with invisible finish is formulated with a unique blend of antioxidants, skin-soothers and hydrators that boost protection while conditioning and nourishing the skin. It effectively protects the face and neck from UVA/UVB rays and sun damage, including pigmentation and dark spots. Ultra-light and fragrance-free texture.   Key ingredients:Chemical-free SPF 50 powered by zinc oxide and titanium dioxide provides powerful UVA/UVB protection. Antioxidant-rich CBD boosts skin's resilience against environmental damage, including ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

  • Your skin will be delighted if you massage it with the After Sun Elixir while it’s still slightly damp, immediately after a shower or a bath. In addition to all the soothing and invigorating ingredients that relax, soften and repair the skin, our elixir has another wonderful feature – the exquisite scent of lemongrass essential oil that not only pampers with its soothing freshness, but also helps repel mosquitoes, which is just another bonus of this exceptional summer product.
  • Immediately after cleansing, make sure to provide your face with plenty of moisture, freshness and antioxidants; our Moisturising Bright Essence will take care of everything at once! Continue with moisturising treatment and apply the Nurturing Face Cream or Balancing Face Cream (depending on your skin’s needs), then, as a cherry on top, reward your exhausted and stressed skin with the Replenishing Antioxidant Face Oil. The latter is exactly what tired skin that’s losing its elasticity and softness due to environmental stress needs.

The best things always come in pairs. You’ve probably already fallen in love with Hemptouch’s summer hit - the After Sun Elixir, which has become an undisputed summer favorite with its exceptional combination of hempseed oil, lemongrass essential oil and St. John’s Wort extract, which, by the way, was used by people like Hippocrates and Paracelsus to heal wounds. However, it’s always been a bit of a lone wolf in the summer product range, and we were aware, admittedly, that we were still msising the most important thing – a proper natural mineral formula that would offer full protective care.
